Spencer Butte – Conditioning

Description:

Meeting at the TH at 5:45 and start hiking soon after. Hiking at a good pace to the Spencer's Butte main TH, up the "steep" way, a quick break at the top to recollect, then down the "easy" way back to the cars. I plan to pack 20-30% of my body weight (typical climbing pack weight is encouraged) and keep a good pace to the top; so far, it's been about a 3 mi/hr pace overall.

Trip Report

Very wet day and off to a later start, but still out before sunset (according to the clock...lots of cloud cover). Folks had a pretty good work out and the wind and wet didn't let us hang out at the top for long. One person opted out of the steep trail, but met us on the way back to the cars. Folks carried between 15 and 45 pounds. We were done in a little over 2 hours.
