We will be working on the West Trail. We will have a variety of activities including re-establishing some of the stone steps, cleaning and improving drainage features, removing debris and duff, and cleaning the kiosk.

Trip Report

11 unintimidatable volunteers met up at the main Spencer Butte parking lot for trail maintenance in spite of the possible thunderstorm, which never appeared. (It is always perfect weather for trail maintenance!)

Our group got down to business for our first Wednesday evening outing of the summer schedule. We worked independently to improve 3 drainage features and improve 2 steps in the steep section of the West Trail by adding additional rocks to the trail-bed to create steps and reinforce drains. Janet raked much of the duff and fir needles off the West Trail below where we were working. Clara expertly cleaned the steps and kiosk including the roof. All this work was and will be showcased during the Trails Summit hike on May 29 and the upcoming Ridgeline Celebration/National Trails Day event June 7.
