Description:

We will continue our work to improve the West Trail. For this month's outing we will work with Dev to install retaining features along the outside edge of the upper sections of the West Trail. Some of our group will get to carry peeler cores up the West Trail.

Addtitional tasks options may include cleaning the trailhead and sweeping the summit steps.

Meet at the main Spencer Butte trailhead parking lot, paved lot on Willamette Street.

Trip Report

For this month's outing we worked with Dev Cochrane of the City to add retaining features to the upper portions of the West Trail. We carried the "deadmen" up the trail and broke into 2 groups to add 1 large and 1 small sections of retaining feature to the trail. We back filled each with the spoils from our excavations. Dev expertly cut the peeler cores using his carpentry chainsaw. We worked an extra hour to ensure that we completed installing the retaining features.

Clara expertly cleaned the trailhead stairs and kiosk. Janet, Jane, and Jerimi helped pickup litter from the trailhead and hiked up to view what we worked on.
