Spencer Trails Clean-up

Description:

The trails near Spencer Butte could use a little TLC. There’s litter to be picked up and there seems to be an increasing amount of doggie droppings on the trail. We’ll start at the main parking lot, go to the top and then down the tie trail. The plan is to leave a car at the 52 nd Street trailhead so we can cover that section of trail and shuttle people back to their cars at the main parking lot.

Trip Report

This trip should have been called Doggie Doo Patrol. First we rolled a large rotting deadfall tree off the trail just 150 feet from the steps at the main parking lot. Then we began seeing dog poop along the trail. In our trek from the parking lot to the summit we dealt with 108 nasty little piles along the trail. This isn't counting the 10 dog waste bags we picked up. Coming down we followed the Tie Trail and then headed down the Ridgeline Trail to the 52nd street trailhead. This section was much better-2 bags of dog waste and 8 piles. Of course, we also picked up litter--wrappers, bottles, tissue, and what appear to be the remnants of someone shortening their denim shorts.
