Sunshine Meadows Restoration

Description:

Two night backpacking trip into the Obsidian area at the base of the three sisters. We will be continuing a project to restore sunshine meadows by placing small dams in an old user trail to. Friday will consist of hiking to our basecamp along with checking high use areas such as Obsidian Falls and Arrowhead Lake for clean up. Saturday we will spend most of our time in sunshine meadows placing the check dams and replacing ones that have come loose. Sunday will be spent packing up and hiking out.

In order to participate you'll need to have a volunteer agreement in place with the forest service, contact me for the form so we can get it in at least a week in advance.

We'll set up a carpool place once we have an idea of the number of participants.

Trip Report

We started Friday morning from Frog Camp to make our way up Obsidian Trail to the PCT. Along the way we had to cut a log that had fallen since the previous log out earlier in the season. We then took a short trip towards Arrowhead Lake, dropped our camping gear at some campsites along the way and made our way up to the lake for some photos. Saturday was spent placing check dams and fixing old check dams along the user trail the cuts through Sunshine Meadow. We were able to see that all our previous work has started restoring the area in the lower meadow! Sunday we had a leisurely walk out!
