Description:

Meet up location changed to Amazon Park, 28th & Hilyard . We will go up Baldy and then follow the trails down into the Arlie Park. There will time to explore the developing trail/road system. Some routes will be for the mountain bikers when the project is completed. This is Eugene's largest park and has lots of potential. Your leader envisions the day when we leave from Martin Street and take trails to have lunch at LCC and then return.

Trip Report

This was a “memorable” hike. It’s doubtful that it will on anyone’s list of best hikes but it won’t be forgotten. The rain had eased when we started but returned as headed down into the Suzanne Arlie park. The “user” trail has been replaced by braided paths seemingly made by mountain bikers. Slick, muddy routes meant slow going and a few falls. The rain picked up and so did the wind. Branches fell. The muddy sections were replaced by a water filled path. Upon reaching a road we concluded that our best plan was to get to LCC as soon as possible. When we arrived three of us took an LTD bus. A call was made to Charlie Ashmore who gave our drivers a lift back to our cars which were 3 wet, muddy miles away. In short time, the remaining hikers were retrieved.
