Trip Report

After our coffee break at the Tualatin Rest Area, we stopped at the Willamette Falls where Ewart told us how the Missoula Floods impacted this area around Oregon City. South on 99-E to the Swan Island Dahlia Gardens. The row upon row of these showy flowers were a kaleidoscope of color. Dahlias thrive in this rich, loamy soil in a virtual frost-free climate. We lunched at the nearby Molalla State Park. Then on to the Flower Farmer, featuring dried bouquets and other items. A friendly pet white rabbit at the cashier desk drew much attention. The Fir Point Farms on Arndt Road were a delight - coffee, ice cream, produce, flowers, a gift shop, gardens, farm animals, also a hiking tail along a creek with many large and hungry rainbow trout looking for hand-out treats. And there were several goats in pens and up in trees some 30 feet above ground - no kidding! Having been deprived of food or drink for 30 minutes or so, we had another stop at the Pacific Hazelnut Candy Store in Aurora for needed calories. Veteran driver Larry Edwards returned us home at 5:15 p.m. to complete an enjoyable experience on a pleasant day.
