Trip Report

By luck we accomplished this hike in the beautiful sunny morning. Although the temperature at the beginning was 32 degrees or so, it was a crystal clear sky, no fog or clouds. We walked through the University, taking note of the extensive damage done to many of the trees, crossing Franklin Blvd at Walnut and headed to the Knickerbocker Bridge to start looking for all the 15 Talking Stones. We started with #10 on the other side of the bridge. Heading east, we found 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15. Turning west along the cannel we found the rest, stretch out between the channel, #8, around the pond, through the filbert orchard to Autzen Bridge then to the dog park. Following the paved path beside the dog park west and as you approach the nursery and Near By Nature you find #1. Turning left at intersection returning to the river path your heading east again back toward the Knickerbocker, where you will pickup # 7 and 9. #7 is the easiest to miss you have to take the left hand paved road, leaving the path that runs along the river to find 7 then double back to the river trail to get 9. Then you are back at #10. Then its a walk back to the cars, with the option to get coffee and a bathroom break at Market of Choice, which some of use did. 2 of use stopped at the Glenwood for lunch and the rest went on to the cars.
