Description:

One of the finest trails in Oregon – a dirt path with very few rocks & roots, views of the Cascades from the Sisters to Mt. Adams. No snow, weather forecast sunny & in the high 70’s {at nearby Sisters}. Will be cold, maybe 40, starting out.

The pace will be slow to moderate. Will stop at Sisters Coffee on the way for coffee and/or treat.
Optional return via Rte. 242 if it is open

Trip Report

October 7 was a cloudless summer-like day with temps in nearby Sisters around 80; a bit smoky to the south from remnant fires, but clearer to the west and north offering views of the Cascade peaks from Mt. Bachelor to Mt. Jefferson. The winds were unusually calm as we lollygagged on the rim for 1.5 hours, snapped photos and identified various landmarks from memory or by guess or by golly.

The Wilderness permit ystem worked just fine as there were a moderate number of hikers around, and certainly no crowds. Leader Buzz Blumm led his 50th hike after 32 years – hooray!
