Trip Report

Thirty-seven Obsidians enjoyed the traditional dinner at the Lodge and were entertained with a program on American Indians presented by Arthur and Thelma Kline. They have studied Indian history and artifacts for 40 years. They brought their recordings of Indian chants for background music.

Lila Smith presented an Indian prayer before the dinner. Turkey was plentiful and delicious, thanks to the turkey cooks - Gertrude Oswald and Lorene Bressler. Chet and Ruth Nichols did a neat carving job. The serving table was loaded with the delicious food that always accompanies Thanksgiving.

Lorene and Hazen Bressler planned this delightful day and supervised all the preparations. Table decorations arranged by Lorene and Mary-Douglass Stovall were in keeping with the program - white tablecloths, mountain centerpieces*, enhanced with fir trees, Indian figures, tipis & canoes (all in miniature), plus tall white candles in formal candelabra. (Some of the small articles were made by third graders) Flowers and other decorations were brought by Florence Sims.

Ray Sims came early to make the coffee and replenish the fire, and afterward helped Hazen put away tables and chairs. Other volunteers helped with the final cleanup, which was very much appreciated. It was another outstanding Obsidian treat.

*The painted cardboard mountains were made some time ago by Myrtle Smith and Gerry Fehly.
