Description:

On Saturday we’ll hike to our secluded camp south of The Husband via the Foley Ridge trail.

Sunday morning a short 4th class or low 5th class scramble will get us to the top of The Husband for magnificent views of the Sisters.

Trip Report

Prevailing winds kept the smoke from the Pole Creek fire on the east side of the Three Sisters on the day we hiked in to our camp. When we arrived I suggested that we climb after setting up our tents as we couldn’t count on the air being as smoke-free the next day. All agreed to this change of plan. We left camp at about 4pm and were all on top by 5:30. The Sisters looked bright and sharp in the evening light. We saw smoke from the fire through the Chambers Lakes saddle. Several times we heard what sounded like thunder, then saw dust from rockfall cascading down the west side of South Sister. After enjoying half an hour on top we hiked back to camp, arriving there at about 7pm. After a pleasant night on our island-in-the-sky, watching stars, meteors and planets, and getting plenty of sleep, we took plenty of time to have breakfast and repack for our hike out.
