Trip Report

Nine of us met at Santiam Pass summit on Saturday 7 June to climb Three Fingered Jack. There was at least three feet of snow at the parking area and we were entirely on snow for our 3½ hour hike to the base of the pinnacle. Not much snow on the pinnacle except for one last large drift just before the "Crawl". The Crawl and the Chimney were both bare of snow and also out of the wind, so it was pleasant enough to wait for belays, etc.

It was a sunny but windy day. This was the first time I've been on a mountain when we were the only people there in a long time. From the summit we could see the largest expanse of snow in the area for this time of year for many a season. Maybe the glaciers will quit receding.

Climbers were: Phil Baldner, Brian Hatch, David Hatch, Lee Hatch, Wayne Hatch, Bobby Moffitt, Paul Wittenborn, Randy Zustiak, and Dick Moffitt, leader.
