Trip update (8/8): Weather is not looking very good for Saturday.  This climb is being moved to Sunday.  Specific logistics are being communicated via email to the team members.  Either camp at Santiam Pass PCT Saturday evening or meet at 3:50am on Sunday morning at the Springfield Albertsons.  We plan to be hiking out of the PCT parking lot at 5:30am Sunday morning.

Trip Report

A group of 8 spirited Obsidians left the PCT parking lot in a light drizzle just before the sun came up. Weather forecasts promising clearing skies fueled the stoke of the day. The team saw brief glimpses of blue sky and sunshine as we made our way towards 3FJ. We climbed our way up to the ridge of the mountain thinking we could get above the clouds. Shortly before reaching the crawl, the reality of the weather hit. The temperature was dropping close to freezing, the wind was continuing to pick up, and we were all getting soaked from being in a cloud. Though disappointed we weren't able to summit, we turned around and enjoyed sharing our collective snacks when we returned to the warmth of the PCT. The positive attitudes of the group made this an enjoyable outing despite not being able to enjoy the summit.
