Description:

This is an afternoon hike! For this route we will head up the Thurston Trail, across the ridgeline, over the oak savanah, down the winding road and back to the cars via the paved old Weyerhauser Haul Rd. There is about a mile on the ridgeline that can get muddy and slippery so I suggest good boots and poles. The rest of the trail has packed gravel or paved.

We will shuttle the two miles to the Trail Head and then we hike back to the cars. I will then drive the drivers back to their cars at the trail head.

If anyone wants to stay for an early dinner there is a great Mexican restaurant Toreros by the Albertson where we park the cars.

Trip Report

We met behind McDonalds on Main where four drivers drove 17 of us to the Thurston Trail Head 2 miles away. We hiked an easy 6 miles back to the meeting area behind McDonalds. I then drove the four drivers back to their car. It was an easy one way shuttle. The middle 1.5 mile section of the trail was muddy and slippery. We also followed some large cougar tracks. We had no stragglers! We spent time on the top oak savannah and then followed the service road down with nice views of the valley. We made it back to the cars around 4 pm. About 10 of us stayed for a Mexican dinner at Torrero's. A nice time for all.
