Trip Report

We left at 8:00 a.m. and were in Corvallis a short time later, where we did a short tour to see Reser Stadium improvements and some of the Ag buildings as well as the new resort hotel. After our coffee break at Helmick Park, we headed north on Hwy. 22 and at Hebo took Hwy. 101 into Tillamook. We headed for the Tillamook Cheese Visitors' Center where everyone had lunch at the Farmers Cafe, and some did the tour. We left about 2:00 p.m. and visited the Pioneer Museum until about 3:30, when we drove to the Tillamook Air Museum and had a tour and watched some of the videos. We had very elegant rooms at the Shilo in Tillamook and dinner and breakfast in the restaurant at the hotel.

On Day Two we headed north through Garibaldi, Rockaway and at Wheeler we drove up a hill to a residential area where we stopped at a small blue house where Bette, our trip leader, had lived as a child. It was a nostalgic moment and pictures were taken. We continued north to Nehelem State Park where we had our morning break and our leader's birthday was celebrated with a cake. At Oswald State Park on Neakanie Mountain, Dick Speelman led a short hike on the Cape Falcon Trail through old growth forest to the ocean overlook. This a Very popular area for surfers and there were many on the trail. We went back to Tillamook and took Hwy. 8 to Cape Meares, where we had lunch, saw the Octopus Tree and visited the lighthouse. We took the scenic route to Pacific City and had our afternoon break at Straub Park, a new park which our driver knew about. We drove to Lincoln City and took Hwy. 22 and arrived home about 6:30. Many thanks to Ewart Baldwin, the Hospitality Committee, Dick Speelman and to Alan Foss, our driver. Riders were Ewart Baldwin, Mary & Richard Bentsen, Mary Lee Cheadle, Mary Jane Cougill, Kent Christoferson, Dora Harris, Rosella Jones, Kathy & Ron Madden, Rosemary Mason, Cleora Mersdorf, Joyce Mixer, Helen Patterson, Virginia Prouty, Liz Reanier, Edna Robertson, Janet & Richard Speelman, Cristy White, Vera Woolley and Bette Hack (leader).
