Ventenata pull-a-thon – STEWARDSHIP
-
Start date: 06/10/2026
-
Start time: 9:00 AM
Description:
This is invasive grasses removal volunteer work party with The Native Conservancy.
Please meet at Willow Creek Preserve (87200 Rathbone Rd, Eugene, OR 97402)
From 9AM to 12 we will join volunteers from far and near at Willow Creek preserve few minutes west of Eugene, on ‘second annual Ventenata pull-a-thon.’ (Whole event is from 9AM to 2PM but Obsidians are committing for 9-noon only) For those that are unfamiliar, Ventenata is an non-native annual grass that can quickly outcompete perennial and annual native species, changing nutrient cycles and available soil moisture in the process. This species can extend into a diverse suite of prairie habitats, including uplands and wet prairie habitat. At Willow Creek, we have isolated occurrences, which we are trying to manage through a variety of methods, including hand pulling and management of the seed bank. On June 10 we’ll be pulling and bagging plants in pre-identified patches. It will be easy and fun work.
