Description:

We will begin at the Salt Creek Falls Observation Site and Picnic Area, hike past Diamond Creek Falls and Fall Creek Falls, and stop for lunch at Vivian Lake. We will return the way we came, except at Diamond Creek Falls we will take the other side of the loop that leads back to our starting point at Salt Creek Falls. There will be plenty of time for photographs of the pretty waterfalls and Vivian Lake. Scouting notes from August 7: very shady overall, generally well marked trail but some ambiguous trail junctions. Ripe huckleberries in several places. Need mosquito repellent. Side trip to view Diamond Creek Falls from below was very worthwhile.

Trip Report

After driving through rain most of the way to Salt Creek Falls, the rain yielded to partly sunny skies and a comfortable 56 degrees. Eleven hikers enjoyed views of three waterfalls: Salt Creek Falls, Diamond Creek Falls, and Fall Creek Falls. The trail was lined with rhododendrons and tasty wild huckleberries. Mosquitoes were abundant during much of the hike, but we countered with lemon eucalyptus oil repellent and mosquito net headgear. We ate lunch along the south shore of Vivian Lake, and Betty even went for a swim. The view of Diamond Creek Falls from below was very impressive. As we began getting back into our cars at the end of the hike, it began raining again. We all stopped in Brewers Union Local 180 in Oakridge on the return drive (the rain stopped shortly before we arrived). Today we led a charmed life!
