Trip Report

Completing Jim Weaver (Waldo Lake Trail) was one of “goals” in my 2021 bucket list.
Waldo Lake is a large, pure, deep blue, natural alpine lake in the Cascade Mountains north of Hwy 58.
Today, with great group of Obsidians friends we finished 22-mile loop averaging 3.4 moving miles per hour.
We started at Shadow Bay and hiked clockwise, sharing the west side trail with two dozen of mountain bikers and handful backpackers. Just before noon, we stopped for a brief lunch at sunny Northwest peninsula with a great view of Oregon’s second deepest lake.
After the lunch we continued all northwest to the source of North Fork Middle Fork Willamette River and then east through the 1996 Charlton fire to the North Waldo Campground.
On the last stretch of trail 3590, between North Shore and Shadow Bay we met only one long distance runner, a couple mountain bikers and one person on electric unicycle.
At the end of the trail Esme and Joel hosted tailgate refreshment picnic.
Thanks to all for a great day!
