Description:

Nice, flat hike close to town on a mix of paved & compacted gravel surfaces. We will circle the pond first, then cross the highway to travel east for 2 miles along the EWEB canal, returning on the same path. The EWEB road runs right along the canal with beautiful, picturesque farmland and foothills on the opposite side making this a pleasant hike. We may see waterfowl, eagles, beaver, nutria, muskrats, or deer on this hike.

Trip Report

The weather cooperated perfectly for this pleasant winter hike around the "pond" and then 2 miles east up the canal and back. We had mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the high 30's. Unfortunately, we saw very little wildlife--a few small birds in the blackberry bushes, several ducks on Walterville Pond, and 2 blue jays along the canal.
