Trip Report

Departed the SEHS parking lot at 8:00 am; 26 members and friends were aboard. We traveled Hwy. 126, stopping at the McKenzie Ranger Station, then on to Sahalie Falls and Koosah Falls. Rain threatened us but few were ever rained on. Our main stop was at the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery, which is beyond Camp Sherman on the Metolius River. The sun was bright and there was a cool breeze blowing. Mary Lou and John Feuerbach met us and gave a delightful informative tour. The sun was shining brightly so we had our lunch stop at the hatchery. There were lots of birds for the bird watchers. Many were spellbound by the beautiful colors of the glacier-fed river. We said our farewells and went on to the headwaters of the Metolius. Most hiked down to the lookout point. It was not a camera-big day, for the Cascades stayed hidden. We traveled back to Lane County via the Santiam Hwy. with a stop at Cascadia Park. Then the D.Q. nabbed us in Sweet Home. Then it was freeway and rain for the last segment of our trek back to Eugene by 5:00 o’clock.
