Description:

This is the 15th annual Peace Hike in Yachats, commemorating the forcible relocation and genocide of tribal communities by the Alsea Subagency from 1860 - 1875 (https://www.yachatsoregon.org/354/Peace-Hike). We will drive to the Cape Perpetua parking area and hike 2.1 miles down to the Amanda Grotto, where hikers will have the opportunity to place a sprig of cedar wrapped with intentions for peace into a ceremonial fire. There will be a tribal ceremony at noon, lasting approximately 1 hour. Our group will then hike back up to the Cape Perpetua parking area and overlook before returning to Eugene. Some of the group may want to stop in Florence for a snack or beverage before the drive back. Suggested donation to drivers is $19.
