SUMMARY:Chinese History in Portland
DESCRIPTION:Load Bus 7:30 AM\, depart 8:00 AM\nPortland’s Chinatown is our October destination. Located in “Old Town” are the remnants of a thriving Chinese community dating back to the 1870s. At one time it was the second largest Chinatown in the United States. This is an Oregon history story that we’ll experience at the new Chinese Museum opened in December\, 2018. We’ll also tour the beautiful and culturally inspiring Lan Su Chinese Garden. Lunch (included) will be at the nearby Golden Horse restaurant. We will look for the old underground tunnels and imagine the stories to be told. Businesses\, family associations and underground illegal activity thrived. In recent times\, with gleaming new developments happening in the “Old Town” historic district\, the Chinese community is moving to 82nd street on the east side of Portland. We’ll return to Eugene via the east side and down Hwy 99.\nALL BUS TRIP PARTICIPANTS MUST COMPLETE A MEDICAL INFORMATION FORM FOR CURRENT YEAR. Medical form is available from registrar or at http://www.obsidians.org/com_bus \nCost: $75 Members $77 Non-Member Payment due September 26\nPlease make checks payable to Obsidians Bus Trips\nREGISTRATION AND MAIL CHECKS TO: Marcia Claypool 541-736-3896\n2351 Loch Dr. Springfield\, OR 97477\n.
