SUMMARY:Amanda Trail
DESCRIPTION:This hike is dedicated to Amanda\, a Coos woman who was forcibly marched to a reservation far from her homeland on Oregon’s Trail of Tears.  \n The full  trail\, from the south side of Yachats to the Cape Perpetua Whispering Trail Rock Shelter\, is 7.6 miles out and back.  We’ll be starting our journey with the Ya’Xaik Trail to the north of Yachats\, adding an additional 1.1 miles. This hike may turn out to be shorter however\, because of intermittent closures of the trail from the Amanda statue leading to Cape Perpetua.  We’ll find out. It will be a day of history\, flora and fungi. \nParticipants and others who are interested will be invited to participate in a readers’ theater rendition of ‘Amanda Transcending’\, a play by Connie Bennett that explores the sad story of the Coos people’s forced exile from their homeland. \n Here’s a link to the story of the Amanda Trail: https://www.yachatsoregon.org/DocumentCenter/View/71/Amanda-Trail-Story-PDF
