SUMMARY:Rooster Rock
DESCRIPTION:Departs from: Springfield\, Winco Parking lot\, I-105/Mohawk. 1920 Olympic Street\, Springfield. This gives us easy access to get on I-105\, take Mohawk exit to Marcola\, Mohawk Valley and to Sweet Home. It is another 21 miles on Highway 20 to the Trout Creek Trailhead and the Menagerie Wilderness (established1984). There will be a bathroom stop on the way. It is a wilderness so the limit is 12. It will be a moderate steady pace for the uphill hike. It would be like hiking Mt. Pisgah twice with few stops. From the junction with the old climbers’ trail\, it climbs 750′ in the last half mile.

SUMMARY:Blanton Ridge to Spencer Butte
DESCRIPTION:☣️ !! We will keep distance 6’+ and use COVID-safe sign-in proceedures (explained at sign-in time) \nThis hike to the top of Spencer Butte takes the less traveled route from Blanton Road. We’ll cross Blanton Ridge before continuing on from the 52nd and Willamette trailhead. This option provides a good in town workout.. If the weather doesn’t co-operate we can forgo the exposed rocky steps near the top. \n To get to the trailhead from 29th & Willamette continue south on Willamette. At Willamette/Donald St Intersection bear right on Willamette. Immediately bear right again on to Crest Drive. Follow signs staying on Crest for approximately 1.2 miles to the Junction with Blanton Road. Turn left on Blanton. The trial head is on your left in about ½ mile. \nAnother way to get to the Blanton trailhead is to go south on Chambers until it ends at Crest Drive. Turn left on to Crest. In about ½ mile turn right on Blanton Road.

SUMMARY:Exploring Croatia
DESCRIPTION:Poised between the Balkans and central Europe\, this rugged beautiful land has been passed between competing kingdoms\, empires and republics for millennia. If there is an upside to this continual disruption\, it’s in the rich cultural legacy that each has left behind. Venetian palaces snuggle up to Napoleonic forts\, Roman columns protrude from early Slavic churches\, and Hapsburg empire architecture faces off with Socialist realist sculpture. \nLong-time Obsidian\, Darko Sojak\, will present about Croatia and the region.

The trail head is on your left in about ½ mile. \nAnother way to get to the Blanton trailhead is to go south on Chambers until it ends at Crest Drive. Turn left on to Crest. In about ½ mile turn right on Blanton Road.

SUMMARY:Drift Creek Wilderness\, North Trail
DESCRIPTION:Important note: Due to the need to do social distancing\, I would recommend people to travel separately. This is not environmentally friendly\, but many of us are elderly and in the high risk category\, and being in the same vehicle for 4 hours is not social distancing. Being on the trail is. If that is unacceptable\, I can understand and apologize. \n***Please read this before you sign up.*** \n Drift Creek Wilderness is a 2 hour drive from Eugene\, the last 16 miles on a FS road. The trail goes downhill 1400′ to the Creek and then climbs back up. It may well be wet\, and other than the beautiful creek and forest\, there are no views. Also\, I will be doing scouting for the annual logout by the Scorpions 2 weeks later. I may cut out some smaller blowdowns. It is in the wilderness\, which makes it special. It is a moderate hike by all classifications. It climbs at the end\, not the beginning\, but it is not a long hike. Those who are interested in leading hikes\, navigating\, or dealing with wilderness trail scouting and clearing are more than welcome\, since I will be discussing all of these\, including trail memory\, and time on trail recognition\, two of what I think are important but under appreciated virtues in the woods. \nIf you don’t mind a bit of a drive\, this is a lovely wilderness which many people aren’t aware of. It’s not big\, and it has only three trails in it\, and you will get a chance to hike one of them.

SUMMARY:Amazon Hdwtrs/Spencer Butte
DESCRIPTION:The hike will go on with the following changes:\nArrive\, drop your money in the container\, and I will sign you up.\nStart hiking.\nWe can meet at the top. \nStart down separately. What one does after the hike is….after the hike. \nThere should be nice wildflowers\, including snow queens\, visible. There are many spotted Towhees and Pacific wrens\, too. Much is visible to those who hike alone. Enjoy it!! \nIf this is your first time on this Obsidian hike and/or if this is first time you have hiked up Spencer Butte from the lowest elevation\, you may want to call the leader to discuss the pace. It is a conditioning hike where everyone is challenging themselves to go at a moderate or fast pace. —not like the other hikes on our schedule. If you have questions\, email wintertrips@obsidians.org. Every Wednesday we do this hike from the Martin Street Trailhead to the summit of Spencer Butte. Compared to starting at the paved Spencer Butte parking lot\, this hike has double the climbing and three times the distance. A great way to get and stay in shape. Registered guests are welcome.\n To get to the trailhead: Take West Amazon to Martin Street. Turn left. Drive past Kinney Park and park Martin Street near the Kiosk sign board across from Canyon Drive Street sign with hiker symbol. Please call the leader if any questions. One can take LTD Bus #28 to Martin Street. \nMy hikes are leave no trace and don’t feed the animals. Pick up litter if you feel the urge. The Obsidians are responsible for parts of the trail!
