On the 2nd or 3rd day\, participants will have the option of visiting Cape Disappointment State Park and the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center or planning their own activity. The hardest part is the Blanton Heights uphill at the end of the hike.\nThis hike to the top of Spencer Butte takes the less traveled route from Blanton Road. We’ll cross Blanton Ridge before continuing on from the 52nd and Willamette trailhead. This option provides a good in town workout.. If the weather doesn’t co-operate we can forgo the exposed rocky steps near the top.\n To get to the trailhead from 29th & Willamette continue south on Willamette. At Willamette/Donald St Intersection bear right on Willamette. Immediately bear right again on to Crest Drive. Follow signs staying on Crest for approximately 1.2 miles to the Junction with Blanton Road. Turn left on Blanton. This hike provides great views of the High Cascade peaks from Diamond Peak in the south to Mount Hood in the north.\nWe’ll start at the Pat Saddle Trailhead and hike through a mixed conifer forest (with some burned areas) and several open meadows. The first 1.5 miles is a very gentle incline\, only gradually increasing in steepness approaching the summit. We’ll plan on having lunch at the summit\, which has 360 degree views. The old fire lookout has burned and there is no shade at the top\, so be prepared. But the views are spectacular.\nPlease read the Covid-19 protocols on the Obsidian website prior to the hike.
