We will hike to the summit on trails #2\, 4 and 1 and then return using trail #6. The parking lot is small but vehicles sometimes park on the road if there isn’t room. On Sat. 4-15th there were some wet sections\, but nothing that could not be stepped around. \nBonus option: Upon returning to the parking lot\, join in a 20 minute walk across the road to get a peek at a yet undeveloped Eugene park\, “Antis Oak” which connects to the Nature Conservancy’s Willow Creek Preserve.

SUMMARY:Golden Gardens
DESCRIPTION:This is an easy in town hike with 3 ponds and an intersting history- the future is yet to be deterimed by you. This is a lovely stroll with eagles\, geese\, hummingbirds and beavers. It’s not even two miles\, but I’ll show how to extend distance if that’s desired. A meditative walk for repeated loops and laps with both sunrise and sunset views. \nThis is one of the city’s restoration success stories. Also a great save for our native pond turtles – more on that later. Meetup/Departure Location: Golden Gardens

SUMMARY:Mountaineering Conditioning
DESCRIPTION:Park in the main parking lot and meet at the gate for trail#1. You must pay for a day pass at the parking kiosk (debit/credit cards only) or have an annual Lane County parks pass on display in your vehicle. We’ll hike up to the summit and back on trail #1. I’m planning to do two laps with a weighted pack (recommend 20-40lbs in your pack if you want to use training weight)\, but you’re welcome to join for just one lap and/or hike without weight. The goal will be to finish in about 2 hours\, which should be right around sunset (bring a headlamp).

Or what\, exactly\, you can put in there?\nThis “class” is a tour; so come see how your stuff becomes compost\, on a grand scale\, by touring the Rexius facility near Coburg. Our guide\, Rexius’ Dan Sutton\, will show us around these small mountains of trash that’s becoming a variety of soil amendments\, explaining how they make it happen and what can go wrong. SUMMARY:Amazon Hdwtrs/Spencer Butte
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: Flexible departure time from 7:45 to 8:00.\nEvery Wednesday since 2013 we do this hike from the Martin Street Trailhead to the summit of Spencer Butte. Compared to starting at the paved Spencer Butte parking lot\, this hike has double the climbing and three times the distance. It is a conditioning hike where everyone is challenging themselves to go at a moderate or fast pace—not like the other hikes on our schedule. If this is your first time on this Obsidian conditioning hike\, or hiking to Spencer Butte\, you may want to call the leader to discuss the pace. If you should fall too far behind\, the leaders reserve the right to have you not summit but wait and return with the group. The regulars on this hike have attained their fitness by showing up consistently and slowly improving. If you have questions\, email summertrips@obsidians.org. Come a few minutes early because we leave promptly at the listed time. To get to the trailhead: Take West Amazon to Martin Street. Turn left. Drive past Kinney Park and park Martin Street near the Kiosk sign board across from Canyon Drive Street sign with hiker symbol. Please contact the leader if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:Blanton Ridge to Spencer Butte
DESCRIPTION:This hike to the top of Spencer Butte takes the less traveled route from Blanton Road. We’ll cross Blanton Ridge before continuing on from the 52nd and Willamette trailhead. This option provides a good in town workout.. If the weather doesn’t co-operate we can forgo the exposed rocky steps near the top. \n To get to the trailhead from 29th & Willamette continue south on Willamette. At Willamette/Donald St Intersection bear right on Willamette. Immediately bear right again on to Crest Drive. Follow signs staying on Crest for approximately 1.2 miles to the Junction with Blanton Road. Turn left on Blanton. The trail head is on your left in about ½ mile. Do not turn left on Southpointe Dr. \nAnother way to get to the Blanton trailhead is to go south on Chambers until it ends at Crest Drive. Turn left on to Crest. In about ½ mile turn right on Blanton Road.

SUMMARY:Row River Path Trillium Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Row River Trail is a paved rail to trail path that is wonderful for walks\, biking and the occasional equestrian. We will park at the Mosby Creek Trailhead and walk to Dorena Dam. Frequent stops for photos and local history will take place. Dozens of Trillium will be in bloom along with other spring flowers\, two covered bridges are visible and we’ll cross two railroad bridges. From the top of Dorena Dam the views can be spectacular. Waterfowl abounds and other wildlife may be spotted. This is near my house and I enjoy it frequently.\nCottage Grove has an assortment of restaurants if any choose to dine after this walk.\nI will meet participants at the Mosby Creek Trailhead after they drive down from LCC.

At each major trail junction either have a quick rest\, or (optional) participate in some squats\, lunges\, stretches\, etc. Plan for 2.5 – 3 hours. Look for the trip leader’s car in the middle row on the south side of the main parking lot. Be prepared for mud on the trail.

SUMMARY:North Fork Siuslaw River
DESCRIPTION:This is a beautiful\, flatwater tidal paddling trip between the marina in Old Town Florence (43.9681381\,-124.1015504) and Bender Landing Park (44.003981\, -124.071023) on North Fork Road. The trip is suitable for kayaks or canoes (recreational kayaks are fine—sea kayaks are nice but not necessary). Trip difficulty is no more than moderate\, and depends mainly on distance. High tide is around 9:15am\, low tide around 4:20pm. From the marina to the park is just under 5 miles one-way. \nWe have the option of (easiest) a one-way trip (with a shuttle) from the park to the marina (paddling with the ebb tide the whole way); or (moderate difficulty due to distance and paddling against the tide halfway) paddling from the marina to the park and back. \nOther easier options include a shorter out-and-back from either the marina or the park. We can discuss and decide on an option based on the group’s experience and/or desires (I’m flexible!). If it’s very windy\, we can paddle the protected waters of the North Fork Siuslaw from Bender Landing Park and avoid the main river near Florence. Post-paddle if anyone is up for it we can head into Old Town Florence for a late lunch/early dinner before heading back to Eugene.

SUMMARY:Hendricks Park Spring Heyday
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the Ogden Nash poem\, Lines in Praise of a Date Made Praiseworthy Solely by Something Very Nice That Happened to It\, we will stroll the many trails in Hendricks park including Oak Knoll\, Native Plant Garden\, Rhododendron\nGarden\, and if interest\, Pres Rock. Meet at the F.M. Wilkins(covered) Shelter across the road from the parking lot.\nOnce you sign up\, I will email you the poem that suggests that one pause to rejoice on his favorite day\, April 12th. Not sure about mileage but perhaps 1 ½ hours? If you have time\, you might find a word that rhymes with April.\nSpring will hopefully be in its heyday with flowers blooming “on the twelfth of Epperell.”

We will meet in the parking lot\, start out on Trail 17\, head up to Trail 3 and then take Trail 4 on our way to the summit. We will return by Trails 1\, 3\, and 17. SUMMARY:Fairmount Streetcar Loop Walk
DESCRIPTION:We will walk a 3-mile loop section of the original 5.6-mile route of Eugene’s historic Fairmount streetcar line. On our walk some of the original tracks are still visible. \nMeet in front of the Sweet Life Patisserie (1609 East 19th Avenue next to Prince Pucklers). Our walk will begin in front of the Sweet Life Patisserie. We walk over a few blocks east to Moss St. > through the UO to 13th > University St. south then skirting along the Masonic Cemetery > over to 26th > Columbia Ave. > Fairmount St. and back to Moss St.\, ending the hike in front of the Sweet Life Patisserie. \nFor twenty years\, between 1907-1927\, streetcars operated in Eugene along eighteen miles of electrified tracks. There were nine cars and four routes for this city of 11\,500 people. Only the finest cars were used and each was superbly-crafted\, they even included heaters and rattan seats! The cars were up to 45-feet long and could carry up to 100 passengers. The cost was 5 to 10 cents per trip.\nPlan for our walk to be 2 hours in duration. There will be a rest room stop about a third of the way through our walk at the EMU provided it is open. Dress for the weather.

SUMMARY:North Bank Habit Area
DESCRIPTION:The North Bank Habitat is near Roseburg\, exit 135\, Wilbur\, then on North Bank Rd to the West Entrance. The drive takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes. The up and down loop hike has rolling—some steep & challenging hills— up to and along the ridgeline with oak savannas\, meadows\, wildflowers and views of the Umpqua River. Probably a muddy section. We should start hiking around 9:30 and complete the hike around 2:30. It will be a steady moderate pace\, gathering on the hill tops. Easy to avoid poison oak. Plan for a snack break at a picnic table and then a late lunch. If weather forecast is not favorable\, I will change the destination to Mt. Pisgah.

SUMMARY:Trestle Falls loop
DESCRIPTION:With recent rain and snow\, Upper and Lower Trestle Falls should have good water flow. This beautiful forest with old growth and maples is a pleasant destination in all seasons. Trillium\, Oregon grape and bleeding heart might be in bloom. This is my favorite hike!\nPlease meet at LCC and continue to the Cottage Grove Walmart parking lot near the LTD stop where I will meet the group and lead you out to Lund Park Trailhead where we will trek east on Brice Creek trail. After a mile\, the Trestle Falls trail climbs for about a mile to Upper Trestle. We’ll continue past and return to the east end of Brice Creek trail\, hike west and take a side trail to Lower Trestle Falls.\nMany stops can be made to enjoy the beauty\, and have snacks or lunch. Those who like may grab a bite and a beverage in Cottage Grove afterward\, where I can give recommendations
