SUMMARY:Silver Falls
DESCRIPTION:An absolutely wonderful spring hike! The “Trail of 10 Falls” wanders through a lush green canyon with early spring wildflowers and amazing waterfalls\, some of which we will walk behind. Our hike will start at the North Falls parking lot. Lunch break at the South Falls Lodge (approx. 5 miles) where there is usually a fire going inside the lodge to warmth us\, if needed. After lunch we will walk a mile through the woods on the rim trail\, then drop back into the canyon for the return to our cars. \nOptional: Participants have the option to relax at the South Falls Lodge and wait to be picked up after the group completes the hike.

DESCRIPTION:Departs from: Springfield\, Winco Parking lot\, I-105/Mohawk. 1920 Olympic Street\, Springfield. This gives us easy access to get on I-105\, take Mohawk exit to Marcola\, Mohawk Valley and to Sweet Home. It is another 21 miles on Highway 20 to the Trout Creek Trailhead and the Menagerie Wilderness (established1984). There will be a bathroom stop on the way. It is a wilderness so the limit is 12. It will be a moderate steady pace for the uphill hike. It would be like hiking Mt. Pisgah twice with few stops. From the junction with the old climbers’ trail\, it climbs 750′ in the last half mile.

SUMMARY:Exploring Croatia
DESCRIPTION:Poised between the Balkans and central Europe\, this rugged beautiful land has been passed between competing kingdoms\, empires and republics for millennia. If there is an upside to this continual disruption\, it’s in the rich cultural legacy that each has left behind. Venetian palaces snuggle up to Napoleonic forts\, Roman columns protrude from early Slavic churches\, and Hapsburg empire architecture faces off with Socialist realist sculpture. Long-time Obsidian\, Darko Sojak\, will present about Croatia and the region.

SUMMARY:Mt. Pisgah
DESCRIPTION:Meet at the lowest level of the parking lot down from the fee box. You will not have to sign your name on the sign up sheet. I’ll check you in. There will be a bag where you can drop your money. The current plan is to take back trails\, probably 4 and 2 to the summit avoiding the crowds on the main trail. Watch for updates. Not sure about mileage but possibly 3 hours depending on the route back down. Email me if any questions: jbjacobsen@comcast.net

SUMMARY:Amazon Hdwtrs/Spencer Butte
DESCRIPTION:If this is your first time on this Obsidian hike and/or if this is first time you have hiked up Spencer Butte from the lowest elevation\, you may want to call the leader to discuss the pace. It is a conditioning hike where everyone is challenging themselves to go at a moderate or fast pace. —not like the other hikes on our schedule. If you have questions\, email summertrips@obsidians.org. Every Wednesday we do this hike from the Martin Street Trailhead to the summit of Spencer Butte. Compared to starting at the paved Spencer Butte parking lot\, this hike has double the climbing and three times the distance. A great way to get and stay in shape. Registered guests are welcome.\n   To get to the trailhead: Take West Amazon to Martin Street. Turn left. Drive past Kinney Park and park Martin Street near the Kiosk sign board across from Canyon Drive Street sign with hiker symbol. Please call the leader if any questions. One can take LTD Bus #28 to Martin Street.

SUMMARY:UO Scamps & Scholars Walk
DESCRIPTION:The UO has a long and distinguished scholarly history …it has also seen several scamps throughout the years. Our walk will focus on the lighter side of academics including student life over the decades\, campus legends\, and famous pranks. Did you know the first UO mascot was a goat that wore a green sweater? Going to a saloon was grounds for a student being kicked out. That an affair helped to create a schism between the UO and OSU. And that the famous “O” on Skinner Butte has been painted multiple times\, but not with brushes. The walk begins and ends at Espresso Roma (825 E 13th Ave\, Eugene\, next to the Duck Store). Our walk should be finished by noon.
