It is a great place to practice lead climbing since some routes are well bolted. We will also have climbs set up for those who are new to rock climbing so they can learn basic climbing skills. In addition\, we will be giving instruction on how to build a rock climbing anchor and how to clean the anchor when you’re the last person.

It is very short side trail that is part of the Ridgeline Trail System and fun to see the connection.\nThe pace is moderate and/or almost moderate– possibly we would have two groups once we reach Fox Hollow. SUMMARY:The Twins
DESCRIPTION:This hike rises gently through the forest before arriving at the base of a cinder hill\, with a switchback or two to a dazzling view of Waldo Lake and the Cascade peaks. We’ll admire the views here\, then proceed along the saddle to a lunch spot atop the south Twin summit\, with a 360-degree view of the surrounding peaks and lakes. After lunch\, there’s a short scramble down the sandy/cinder hill (poles might be helpful) to a trail that loops around to join the trail we came in on\, and then back to the trailhead. \nUpdate concerning the Cedar Creek Fire: if the Twins trail is still open\, I’ll probably plan on doing the hike as scheduled. It sounds like most days the smoke has been going off toward the east\, and views have actually been pretty good. If it seems too smoky on the day of the hike\, I’ll suggest an alternate hike of similar length/elevation gain. \nNote: I’ll be out of town and without cell coverage Aug. 22-26. I’ll try to respond to phone messages/emails after that.

SUMMARY:Lils Lake "Love A Lake" Hike
DESCRIPTION:Besides being a beautiful hike passing many lakes\, this Love a Lake stewardship activity hike will be a chance for participants to help remove any trash from around Lils and Hidden Lakes. Lots of helping hands makes quick work.\nBecause the Trapper creek bridge is still out\, the group will start by doing a short bushwhack through the woods on the other side of Trapper Creek to intersect the Whitefish trail which connects to the Yoran Lake Trail. Please bring sturdy gloves to pick up garbage. Leader will provide garbage bags to carry out trash.

Do not turn left on Southpointe Dr. \nAnother way to get to the Blanton trailhead is to go south on Chambers until it ends at Crest Drive. Turn left on to Crest. SUMMARY:Amazon Hdwtrs/Spencer Butte
DESCRIPTION:BACK TO MARTIN STREET!!! \nNOTE: Flexible departure time from 7:45 to 8:00.\nEvery Wednesday since 2013 we do this hike from the Martin Street Trailhead to the summit of Spencer Butte. Compared to starting at the paved Spencer Butte parking lot\, this hike has double the climbing and three times the distance. It is a conditioning hike where everyone is challenging themselves to go at a moderate or fast pace—not like the other hikes on our schedule. If this is your first time on this Obsidian conditioning hike\, or hiking to Spencer Butte\, you may want to call the leader to discuss the pace. If you should fall too far behind\, the leaders reserve the right to have you not summit but wait and return with the group. The regulars on this hike have attained their fitness by showing up consistently and slowly improving. If you have questions\, email summertrips@obsidians.org. Come a few minutes early because we leave promptly at the listed time. To get to the trailhead: Take West Amazon to Martin Street. Turn left. Drive past Kinney Park and park Martin Street near the Kiosk sign board across from Canyon Drive Street sign with hiker symbol. Please contact the leader if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:Amazon Hdwtrs/Spencer Butte
DESCRIPTION:The Amazon Headwaters Trail formally opened September 3\, 2005 at a cost $140\,000 with $50\,000 coming from a grant by the state’s Recreational Trails Program. We will be able to see the recent repair work to widen a section of the trail. We will start by taking the Erin Noble Headwaters trail at the end of Martin St. to the usual start of the Amazon Trail. It is very short side trail that is part of the Ridgeline Trail System and fun to see the connection. The pace is moderate and/or almost moderate– possibly we would have two groups once we reach Fox Hollow. You can head down from the summit as fast as you need.
