SUMMARY:Thurston Hills Trails
DESCRIPTION:This is an afternoon hike! For this route we will head up the Thurston Trail\, across the ridgeline\, over the oak savanah\, down the winding road and back to the cars via the paved old Weyerhauser Haul Rd. There is about a mile on the ridgeline that can get muddy and slippery so I suggest good boots and poles. The rest of the trail has packed gravel or paved. \nWe will shuttle the two miles to the Trail Head and then we hike back to the cars. I will then drive the drivers back to their cars at the trail head. \nIf anyone wants to stay for an early dinner there is a great Mexican restaurant Toreros by the Albertson where we park the cars.

SUMMARY:Blanton Ridge to Spencer Butte
DESCRIPTION:This hike to the top of Spencer Butte takes the less traveled route from Blanton Road. We’ll cross Blanton Ridge before continuing on from the 52nd and Willamette trailhead. This option provides a good in town workout.. If the weather doesn’t co-operate we can forgo the exposed rocky steps near the top. Shorter options are available. \n To get to the trailhead from 29th & Willamette continue south on Willamette. At Willamette/Donald St Intersection bear right on Willamette. Immediately bear right again on to Crest Drive. Follow signs staying on Crest for approximately 1.2 miles to the Junction with Blanton Road. Turn left on Blanton. The trial head is on your left in about ½ mile.\nAnother way to get to the Blanton trailhead is to go south on Chambers until it ends at Crest Drive. Turn left on to Crest. In about ½ mile turn right on Blanton Road.

SUMMARY:Fay Lake
DESCRIPTION:Depending on conditions and if they have plowed out space for cars at the beginning of the Faye Lake trail we will do that trail. Faye Lake is a road trip with little elevation gain that ends at the lake. We will have lunch there and return to the cars. If there is no place to park we will park at Maxwell Butte sno park and do the mountain view loop. Under 5 miles with more elevation gain. I will make every attempt to figure this out before the trip. If sky’s are clear we may have views of 3 Finger Jack and Jefferson.

SUMMARY:River Path North
DESCRIPTION:Our path will start at the Greenway Bike Bridge behind Valley River Center. \nWe’ll head north on the East Bank Trail and reach the shops on the north side of Green Acres Road. At this time we can get lunch/snack/coffee. (Last year most people chose lunch at Café Yumm.) Then we’ll re-trace our steps until we come to the Owosso Bike Bridge. After crossing the river here\, our path heads south on a short section on streets. Then on to West Bank Path. The Greenway Bridge returns us to our starting point.

SUMMARY:Ray Benson
DESCRIPTION:With plenty of fresh snow falling the weekend of the 15th and 16th and clear weather predicted for the following week\, Tuesday should be a great day for a cross country ski trip. My plan is to ski from Ray Benson snowpark on the South Loop trail to Brandenburg shelter then back to our vehicles on the North Loop trail. If we have the time I’d also like to make it to the North Blowout shelter.

SUMMARY:Amazon Hdwtrs/Spencer Butte
DESCRIPTION:If this is your first time on this Obsidian hike and/or if this is first time you have hiked up Spencer Butte from the lowest elevation\, you may want to call the leader to discuss the pace. It is a conditioning hike where everyone is challenging themselves to go at a moderate or fast pace. —not like the other hikes on our schedule. If you have questions\, email wintertrips@obsidians.org. Every Wednesday we do this hike from the Martin Street Trailhead to the summit of Spencer Butte. Compared to starting at the paved Spencer Butte parking lot\, this hike has double the climbing and three times the distance. A great way to get and stay in shape. Registered guests are welcome.\n To get to the trailhead: Take West Amazon to Martin Street. Turn left. Drive past Kinney Park and park Martin Street near the Kiosk sign board across from Canyon Drive Street sign with hiker symbol. Please call the leader if any questions. One can take LTD Bus #28 to Martin Street.
