SUMMARY:Mt Shasta
DESCRIPTION:Mt. Shasta is one of the most beautiful mountains in the Cascade Range\, with sweeping views and amazing landscape. This is a two-day climb to 14\,179 feet\, with one night of snow camping. We will ascend Avalanche Gulch\, the main climbing route\, spending the night at Helen Lake (frozen somewhere under all the snow). We will also consider the more remote Hotlum-Bolam ridge\, if road and mountain conditions permit\, and the group is up for the challenge. \nThis is a strenuous climb so participants fitness level should be up to the challenge. \nFor more info\, see:\nhttps://docs.google.com/document/d/1WWu50Y63mX-AQk-hE6EUIT9K4wvtYqvmRaSYiiJRgFA/edit?usp=sharing\n Meetup/Departure Location: Bunny Flat Tarilhead\, Mt. SUMMARY:Yachats to Waldport
DESCRIPTION:We should arrive at Smelt Sands State Park around 10:00 to organize the shuttle to Patterson State Park — starting the beach walk at 10:30\, lunch at Tillicum State Park at 11:45. Target opens at 8:00 (bathrooms). There are bathrooms at Smelt Sands and Tilllicum. Low tide (-.60 feet) is at 11:42 am. There are more than a few several stream crossings. I recommend tennis shoes/wool socks that you don’t mind getting wet. Rubber boots/blisters have been a problem on other trips.\nUPDATE: One person is driving her own car. That means we will only two cars to take the rest of us (7 people)

DESCRIPTION:The primary focus of his work party will be dressing and expanding of the planting beds\, that includes weeding the beds and expansion areas before wheelbarrowing and placing bark mulch. We could also do blackberry clearing to clean out and to expose native growth in various areas around the Lodge if we get enough help. SUMMARY:Rooster Rock
DESCRIPTION:Update: Plan your route to departure place to avoid the Eugene Marathon. Departs from: Springfield\, Winco Parking lot\, I-105/Mohawk. 1920 Olympic Street\, Springfield. This gives us easy access to get on I-105\, take Mohawk exit to Marcola\, Mohawk Valley and to Sweet Home.It is another 21 miles on Highway 20 to the Trout Creek Trailhead and the Menagerie Wilderness (established1984). UPDATE: East of Sweet Home\, we will meet Paul at a Rest area—also a bathroom stop— across from Point Restaurant\, 6305 Highway 20. From Sweet Home it is 21 miles to the trailhead. It is a wilderness so the limit is 12. It will be a moderate steady pace for the uphill hike. It would be like hiking Mt. Pisgah twice with few stops. From the junction with the old climbers’ trail\, it climbs 750′ in the last half mile. From the top\, there is a view east and we should see Hen Rock\, Turkey Monster\, and Chicken Rock hidden in the rugged terrain. Rooster Rock\, was once a lookout. I’ll probably substitute if heavy rain is predicted.

SUMMARY:Silver Falls
DESCRIPTION:This is a wonderful hike! Water flow on the “Trail of 10 Falls” should be powerful at this time of the year. The canyon is lush with greenery year round and spring wildflowers will have emerged. The hike will start at the North Falls parking lot. Lunch break is planned for the South Falls Lodge (about 5 miles in) where there is usually a fire going if we need warmth and food/beverages can be purchased at the Snack bar. If it’s a sunny day\, we can settle into outdoor seating. After lunch we will hike a mile on the Rim Trail\, then drop back into the canyon on the Winter Falls trail and enjoy a number of the waterfalls a 2nd time viewing them from the opposite direction as we return upstream to our start point. \nOptional: When we arrive at the South Falls Lodge\, folks have the option of relaxing there and waiting to be picked up after the rest of the group completes the loop. \nAn Oregon State Parks annual or $5 daily pass is required for each car. Daily passes can be purchased on site; the group will share the expense. .

SUMMARY:Cottonwood Canyon State Park
DESCRIPTION:This is Oregon newest state park. It sit along the John Day River 12 miles southeast of Wasco Oregon and 10 miles from the Columbia River Gorge. I have been here twice so I am familiar with their very basic trail system. This is composed right now of the existing old ranch roads running along both sides of the river. The last time I was there I extended my hiking using animal trails to the top of the canyon. I also started exploring side canyons which I intend to do more of on this trip. In late April we should be seeing wildflowers and several kinds of migrating birds. There are a large number of raptors in the area including Golden Eagles. There are also Big Horn Sheep in this area. I saw 6 the last time I was there. The CG has great showers\, no quarters needed. I consider this and exploratory trip. You need to be comfortable off trail on rocky terrain. We will be using both the ranch roads\, very easy\, and exploring more difficult ground. I will be calling everyone who signs up to discuss any question or concerns.
