SUMMARY:Spencer Butte from Blanton Road
DESCRIPTION:This hike to the top of Spencer Butte takes the less traveled route from Blanton Road. We’ll cross Blanton Ridge before continuing on from the 52nd and Willamette trailhead. This option provides a good in town workout.. If the weather doesn’t co-operate we can forgo the exposed rocky steps near the top. \nTo get to the trailhead from 29th & Willamette continue south on Willamette. At Willamette/Donald St Intersection bear right on Willamette. Immediately bear right again on to Crest Drive. Follow signs staying on Crest for approximately 1.2 miles to the Junction with Blanton Road. Turn left on Blanton. The trial head is on your left in about ½ mile. \nAnother way to get to the Blanton trailhead is to go south on Chambers until it ends at Crest Drive. Turn left on to Crest. In about ½ mile turn right on Blanton Road.

DESCRIPTION:Meet at my car in the parking area below the fee box.  You will need a Lane County Parks Pass. If you don’t have a pass there is a fee station at the trailhead that accepts credit cards. Allow enough time to get your pass and display it in your vehicle.  We’ll be taking trails 17-7-4-2-1 to reach the summit. This route takes us part way up and then down to the east before climbing to the top.  Our return will shorter on trials 1-3-35-5. DESCRIPTION:Turn right at the sign for West Summit Trailhead and follow pay fee/station signs. We meet one row down from the gate and pay station. If you don’t have a Lane County permit\, allow time to use a credit card at the pay station by trailhead. Depending on weather\, I plan to take back trails  like #4 and #2 to the summit\, avoiding the main trail #1. Mileage and elevation could vary but around 6 miles at a steady pace. DESCRIPTION:Casual afternoon Pisgah wandering.  If you’re familiar with Trail #3 you know that in winter parts of it can be a slippery mess. So\, lets travel the this trail before we get enough rain to create problems.  We’ll head south through the meadows for about two miles before get to the south end of trail 3. By then everyone will be warmed up and we start our climb for the day. Much more relaxing than starting uphill right from the parking lot. This hike doesn’t go to the top but takes you through lowlands\, rocky oak hillsides and more forested areas.  PARKING PASS. If you don’t have a Lane County permit\, allow time to use a credit card at the pay station by trailhead.

DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION:\nThis is a 4-day (3-night) active walking exploration through wicked San Francisco; from its wild and lusty frontier days\, to exploring the halls of the notorious Alcatraz prison\, to ground zero for the fight against censorship. We’ll also enjoy some scandalous theater (Beach Blanket Babylon) that features biting satire and outrageously sized hats. The trip starts and ends in San Francisco at the historic Fort Mason Hostel. There will be ample walking opportunities to enjoy beautiful vistas\, historic neighborhoods\, and exploring this world-class city. \n======\nCOSTS:\nParticipants are responsible for managing all of their own expenses – transportation to/from Eugene to San Francisco\, overnight accommodations\, all food\, tickets to shows\, and miscellaneous costs.\nThese costs can run about $450-$500. Here’s a quick overview:\n# Allegiant Air is usually the most affordable airline and flies directly between Eugene and Oakland.\n# Accommodation at the hostel runs about $50 a night (approx. $150 total)\n# Traveling from the airport to the hostel via BART and the MUNI streetcar runs about $20.\n# Additional costs can run $150 and might include: Cable car ($7)\, Alcatraz fees ($40)\, Beach Blanket Babylon ($40)\, food\, etc. \n======\nSCHEDULE:\nDAY 1: Thursday\, November 22\, 2018\nThanksgiving Day. Arrive in San Francisco on your own time. The hostel has bag storage if you arrive early. Dinner is on your own. \nDAY 2: Friday\, November 23\, 2018\nStart the day with a complimentary breakfast at the hostel. We’ll catch a cable car ride across town to Market Street. At Union Square we’ll begin walking the Barbary Coast Trail and journey through San Francisco’s gold rush where people were shanghaied\, gambling was the currency\, and two saloon dogs were celebrities. We’ll explore Chinatown\, see where the American Gold Rush started\, and walk in the footsteps of the literary troublemakers Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg. We’ll even visit a Prohibition-era cave. In the late afternoon\, we’ll walk garden-lined walkways and seek out hidden stairways on our way back to the hostel. Our route will cross parts of Nob\, Telegraph\, and Russian Hills. Plan on walking 6-8 miles today. \nDAY 3: Saturday\, November 24\, 2018\nVisit Alcatraz Island in the late morning and return mid-afternoon. We’ll have a couple hours to relax or explore on your own before making our way to dinner and a performance of the the saucy musical review of Beach Blanket Babylon. Plan on walking about 5-6 miles today.  \nDAY 4: Sunday\, November 25\, 2018\nOpen: The day is free for your own explorations. \n======\nHOSTEL:\nWe’ll be staying at the historic Fort Mason Hostel (Hosteling International Fisherman’s Wharf). We will NOT be staying in one room as a group. Book a bed in one of the rooms they offer (I suggest one of the smaller rooms). SUMMARY:Larison Rock
DESCRIPTION:Straightforward hike up a mountain biking trail maintained by GOATS.  Lunch on top of the rock.  Note departure time.  It’s not far out there and the hike itself isn’t too long.  If you can climb but you hate distance\, this is a decent hike.  If you love distance but don’t like climbing\, it isn’t a good hike.  No stream crossings.  Wear good footgear for the rocks and in general.  It’s in the woods except for the rocks.  We need to be careful of mountain bikers.  It’s their trail and it will be the Sunday before Thanksgiving. \nLeave no Trace hike and no deliberate feeding of wildlife\, please.

SUMMARY:Koosah Falls around Clear Lake
DESCRIPTION:We will park at the trail head for Koosah Falls and hike east passing Sahalie Falls. After crossing the highway we will make the loop around Clear lake and head back to Koosah Falls.  The main elevation gain is the 1.5 miles to Clear Lake and then relatively flat around the lake.  The pace will be Moderate.  The plan is to stop for lunch at the Clear Lake Resort using their picnic tables.  The resort store should be open for snacks and if we are lucky – hot coffee.

SUMMARY:Veterans Day
DESCRIPTION:Veterans and non-veterans are encouraged to attend. This will be a moderately paced stroll along the river bank trails for about a 6 mile loop on hard surfaced pathways. We will hike going downriver from the Campbell Senior Center and stop at the Lane Country Veterans Memorial to view the names and pay respect to those local veterans who have given their lives in service to our country. We will continue on and hike the river path all the way up to and cross over on the Owosso footbridge\, continue back along the north bank\, crossing the Greenway footbridge\, and return to the Campbell Senior Center parking lot.

SUMMARY:Eel Creek
DESCRIPTION:We will travel on Hwy 38 to Reedsport\, with a stop in Elkton to get coffee and at Deans Creek elk reserve where we might get lucky and see elk.  We continue passed Reedsport for 15 mile to the trailhead.  We will hike across some of the highest dunes on the coast out to the beach where there will be time to beach walk and et lunch.  This trip will not be canceled due to weath in Eugene.  Frequently the weather is awfull here and great over there.  There is a chance that we would have to wade for a short distance if the fall is very rainy.  We will return via Florence where each car can decide if they want tot stop for coffee or more.

DESCRIPTION:We begin with views from above and below of 20′ Alsea Falls\, then hike 1.3 miles to 60′ Green Peak Falls.  Returning by the same path\, we finish our hike with a 2.4 mile clockwise loop along Side Winder Trail and Buckhorn Trail\, ending at a picnic area and the parking lot.  Be prepared for rain\, mud\, and some slippery spots along the trails.

DESCRIPTION:Description: We will use a car shuttle to facilitate the Ridgeline Trail hike the from Blanton to Spring trailhead. A great way to hike the entire Ridgeline trail. A moderate pace with up and downs.  If there are hikers who want to do an out and back doubling the distance\, we can facilitate that. Please check if you can drive. With ten people\, we should be able to do the shuttle with two cars left at end of the hike and two cars to drive to the start at Blanton. Bring bathing suit & towel (rent towel – $2.00) No eating pool side. Tables inside bldg. Hike back to McK. R S about 1:30 pm. LTD bus #91 leaves 3:58 pm.\nThis hike is for those not in a hurry. We’ll keep moving\, but will enjoy the area in the fall\, take pictures\, chat\, etc.\nNot for speedsters.

DESCRIPTION:This is our weekly aerobic hike starting at Martin Street Trailhead up to Spencer Butte. We start promptly so come a few minutes early to check in. Wear appropriate clothing for the weather. It is a steady pace varying from moderate to fast.  Guests are welcome.\nTo get to the trailhead: Take West Amazon to Martin Street. Turn left. Drive past Kinney Park and park on Martin Street at the Kiosk sign board across from Canyon Drive Street sign with hiker symbol. One can take LTD Bus #28 to Martin Street. Please call the leader if any questions \nNOTE: (1) Leave No Trace is practiced in my hikes.  Pick up your own litter and maybe pick up some more.  (2) NO feeding of the squirrels on top.  This is harmful to the squirrel\, and will kill it ultimately. In addition\, it creates a nuisance and a bite–need rabies treatment–risk. Finally\, the outdoor wildlife are not to be “subdued” to satisfy one’s ego.  Leave the animals alone\, please.

DESCRIPTION:A section of the Ridgeline Trail system that isn’t as heavily used as the parts nearer Spencer Butte.  It also offers alternate paths so it is not a straight  out and back. Our pace will be moderate.\nIf you’ve done this one before\, come and see the NEW STEPS and IMPROVED TRAIL.  Much less prone to wet weather problems.\nWe’ll meet at the Ridgeline Trail parking lot on Fox Hollow.  It’s across the road from the Raptor Center.
