SUMMARY:Middle Fork of Willamette
DESCRIPTION:The Middle Fork of the Willamette River Trail runs from Sand Prairie Campground near Hills Ck Reservoir to Timpanogas lk. It passes Chuckle Spring\, the headwater of the Willamette River.\nWe will be doing the section from road 2127 to road 2184 out and back. If we have enough drivers we also have the option of doing a shuttle and hiking one way from Sand Prairie Campground to Rd. 2184. Hoping for some spring flowers and wildlife.\nNote\, I believe there has been construction since I hiked it a few years back\, but it is still possible that we may have a creek crossing along the way.

SUMMARY:Pisgah East Side Loop
DESCRIPTION:To get to the east trailhead head drive toward Pleasant Hill on hwy 58. Turn left at the 76 station on to Ridgeway Rd. The parking area is 1.7 miles down this road. We will hike to the summit on trails #2\, 4 and 1 and then return using trail #6. The parking lot is small but vehicles sometimes park on the road if there isn’t room. You need a Lane County pass to park but not if you park on the road.\n Car break-ins occur on occasion and happened to one member on our last hike\, so be sure to leave nothing in view in your car.\n Some will likely choose to lunch together at the Pleasant Hill Sunrise Cafe afterwards.

SUMMARY:Oak Knoll\, Hendricks Park
DESCRIPTION:We will meet at 28 / Hilyard at 8:45AM and then carpool to the trailhead in Hendriks park area.\nParking on our trailhead is limited so we’ll try to carpool. \nThis 9AM – noon work party project is ideal for restoration-savvy volunteers. The Oak Knoll\, savannah grassland at Hendricks\, is in need of some real attention. There’s invasive grasses\, vinca\, and poison hemlock encroaching on oaks. We will have projects Do you know where The Oak Knoll is? \nPositioned between groovy Eugene’s Laurelwood \nneighborhood and nearby Hendricks Park\, this savannah grassland is in constantly needs of some real attention. There are some invasive grasses\, vinca\, and poison hemlock encroaching on oaks. The Obsidians Stewardship Committee runs a work party project ideal for skilled restoration volunteers. \nToday we worked under the watchful eye of Cait Wisbeski\, City of Eugene\, Hendricks Park Volunteer Coordinator. \nBesides being part of the community\, we had a good feeling of being a steward of the land and part of a big project\, we had fun. The first track maintenance participant happily expressed “This is really good for me”. Please volunteer.

SUMMARY:Marys Peak North Trail
DESCRIPTION:An hour or so drive to Junction City and on Highway 20 to Woods Creek Road—then 7.5 miles on paved and gravel road to the North Ridge Trailhead #1350. It is 4.4 mile hike up to the day use Observation Point /parking lot/toilets where we will see yellow avalanche lilies in the meadow. Another .6 miles to the top of Marys Peak (3750 ft) for lunch. We should start the hike around 9:30 and app. 2 1/2 hours reach the summit. It is marked as moderate but the elevation gain s like two Pisgahs. No snow! The representative at the Corvallis Forest Headquarters said they had been no reports of trees across the trail. I am sure there will be trees to cross over. Target opens at 8:00 so bathrooms would be available. There are no convenient ones on the way to the trailhead and none at the trailhead.

SUMMARY:Eagles Rest
DESCRIPTION:Eagles Rest: only 26 miles up highway 58. The turn-off then becomes about 3 miles of gravel road. Last fall it had been re-paved and was in good shape. This is a lovely hike through lush forest up to the top of Eagles Rest and a nice view. This is where we’ll take a break & early lunch. Could be a bit muddy. \nCarpool: Parking is a bit limited\, so please prepare to carpool\, the fewer cars the better.

SUMMARY:Blanton Ridge to Spencer Butte
DESCRIPTION:This hike to the top of Spencer Butte takes the less traveled route from Blanton Road. We’ll cross Blanton Ridge before continuing on from the 52nd and Willamette trailhead. This option provides a good in town workout.. If the weather doesn’t co-operate we can forgo the exposed rocky steps near the top. \n To get to the trailhead from 29th & Willamette continue south on Willamette. At Willamette/Donald St Intersection bear right on Willamette. Immediately bear right again on to Crest Drive. Follow signs staying on Crest for approximately 1.2 miles to the Junction with Blanton Road. Turn left on Blanton. The trail head is on your left in about ½ mile. Do not turn left on Southpointe Dr. \nAnother way to get to the Blanton trailhead is to go south on Chambers until it ends at Crest Drive. Turn left on to Crest. In about ½ mile turn right on Blanton Road.

SUMMARY:Eula Ridge - Hardesty loop
DESCRIPTION:The forest is beautiful and green. This hike climbs steeply up the Eula Ridge trail and connects with the Hardesty Trail. The top of Hardesty has the remnants of a lookout\, with trees blocking the view that used to exist. The return down the Hardesty Trail has more switchbacks as it descends to the Hardesty Trailhead.\nThe drivers will pull into the Hardesty Trailhead and we’ll take a car/cars to the Eula Ridge Trailhead. Upon completion\, cars will return to Eula Ridge to pick up vehicles at that location.

SUMMARY:Amazon Hdwtrs/Spencer Butte
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: Flexible departure time from 7:45 to 8:00.\nEvery Wednesday since 2013 we do this hike from the Martin Street Trailhead to the summit of Spencer Butte. Compared to starting at the paved Spencer Butte parking lot\, this hike has double the climbing and three times the distance. It is a conditioning hike where everyone is challenging themselves to go at a moderate or fast pace—not like the other hikes on our schedule. If this is your first time on this Obsidian conditioning hike\, or hiking to Spencer Butte\, you may want to call the leader to discuss the pace. If you should fall too far behind\, the leaders reserve the right to have you not summit but wait and return with the group. The regulars on this hike have attained their fitness by showing up consistently and slowly improving. If you have questions\, email summertrips@obsidians.org. Come a few minutes early because we leave promptly at the listed time. To get to the trailhead: Take West Amazon to Martin Street. Turn left. Drive past Kinney Park and park Martin Street near the Kiosk sign board across from Canyon Drive Street sign with hiker symbol. Please contact the leader if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:Evening hike: Baldy/Fox Hollow
DESCRIPTION:6 pm: Meet at the trailhead on DILLARD RD & HIDDEN MEADOWS DRIVE. SUMMARY:Skinner Butte
DESCRIPTION:We will ascend the north side of the Butte from the parking lot on old trails and will traverse the summit to the east lookout. Then we will hike down to the relatively new Mid-Elevation Trail and will circle the Butte clockwise. When we come again to the north side\, we will hike down and take the trail to the Campbell Center parking lot to see if there is activity at the bald eagles’ nest\, then will return to the cars. There will probably still be wildflowers on the Butte. Meetup/Departure Location: Skinner Butte Parking Lot (near RiverPlay)

Members are welcome to sign up to help answer questions. \nDrive past the Laurelwood Golf Course up 27th St then at the top of the hill turn right onto Spring Blvd\, a one lane road. SUMMARY:Diamond Peak - Graduation Climb
DESCRIPTION:This climb is intended for recent graduates of the Obsidians Climb School. We will ascend via the Pioneer Gulch route on the south to southwest side of the mountain. SUMMARY:Mt June (via Lost Creek)
DESCRIPTION:This is a close in hike in the Dexter area. It’s a steady climb for about 2 miles\, then a “rolling” up and down\, and finally a short\, steep climb to the former lookout tower at the top. There will be some woodland wildflowers and hopefully\, a profusion of flowers at a rock outcropping. Most of the Cascade mountains can be seen from the top. Poles may be helpful for the steep sections. Note: Bill Sullivan’s description of the hike starts from a different trailhead.
