SUMMARY:Amazon Hdwtrs/Spencer Butte
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: Flexible departure time from 8:15 to 8:30.\nEvery Wednesday since 2013 we do this hike from the Martin Street Trailhead to the summit of Spencer Butte. Compared to starting at the paved Spencer Butte parking lot\, this hike has double the climbing and three times the distance. It is a conditioning hike where everyone is challenging themselves to go at a moderate or fast pace—not like the other hikes on our schedule. If this is your first time on this Obsidian conditioning hike\, or hiking to Spencer Butte\, you may want to call the leader to discuss the pace. If you should fall too far behind\, the leaders reserve the right to have you not summit but wait and return with the group. The regulars on this hike have attained their fitness by showing up consistently and slowly improving. If you have questions\, email summertrips@obsidians.org. Come a few minutes early because we leave promptly at the listed time. To get to the trailhead: Take West Amazon to Martin Street. Turn left. Drive past Kinney Park and park Martin Street near the Kiosk sign board across from Canyon Drive Street sign with hiker symbol. Please contact the leader if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:Groundhog Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:Meet at the Masonic Cemetery at 25th and University near the interpretive signs and gate—not at the Abbey. From there we will walk through the Cemetery to hopefully see the snowdrop flowers and a groundhog\, then on city streets to the Ribbon Trail\, by the Obsidian Lodge\, Hendricks Park and back to our cars. Be prepared for a steady uphill push for the first 30-40 minutes. Bathrooms at Hendricks Park. Update: We will only do the hike once —not do it again as in the movie\, Groundhog Day. Depending on time\, optional lunch or snack at a place to be decided by the group. \nEmail me at jbjacobsen@comcast.net if you have questions.

SUMMARY:Prairie View Loop @ Ikenick SP
DESCRIPTION:This snowshoe came out of my comment several years ago that “Somebody ought to do something about these trails here.” Both of the Ikenick loop trails were unable to be completed because the diamond markers were no longer present. While Prairie View loop has no view of prairie\, is flat and on roads a good deal of the way\, it goes through some nice meadows (maybe prairie) pretty woods\, by several flowing streams\, and is not known by most people as a loop. Ikenick is often bypassed for whiter pastures\, but opening this loop was worth the falls\, dropped gloves\, wrong turns\, face plants caused by blackberry vines in summer\, that sort of stuff. Those doing it will be among the first to have completed the loop in a long time. This is a solid moderate snowshoe that requires one be able to go a bit over 6 miles on a low elevation track.

SUMMARY:Blanton Ridge to Spencer Butte
DESCRIPTION:This hike to the top of Spencer Butte takes the less traveled route from Blanton Road. We’ll cross Blanton Ridge before continuing on from the 52nd and Willamette trailhead. This option provides a good in town workout.. If the weather doesn’t co-operate we can forgo the exposed rocky steps near the top. \n To get to the trailhead from 29th & Willamette continue south on Willamette. At Willamette/Donald St Intersection bear right on Willamette. Immediately bear right again on to Crest Drive. Follow signs staying on Crest for approximately 1.2 miles to the Junction with Blanton Road. Turn left on Blanton. The trail head is on your left in about ½ mile. Do not turn left on Southpointe Dr. \nAnother way to get to the Blanton trailhead is to go south on Chambers until it ends at Crest Drive. Turn left on to Crest. In about ½ mile turn right on Blanton Road.

SUMMARY:Mt Pisgah
DESCRIPTION:Turn right at the sign for West Summit Trailhead and follow pay fee signs to the main parkiing lot. Look for us a row or two down below the fee box. Depending on weather\, I plan to take Trail 7 and 3 to Trail 4 where we will see the first wildflowers – Snowqueen plus a few surprises. Depending on the group\, we will either take the longer route on Trail 4 or the shorter one connecting to Trail 6. Either way\, it will be uphill on Trail 2 to the Summit at a steady pace. Estimated time is 3 hours so bring snacks. Once we reach the summit\, you have the option of going back down on the main trail for a total of 6 miles or continuing on to the north trailhead for a total of 7.4 miles. Email me at jbjacobsen@comcast.net if you have questions.
