When you think of hiking in Eastern Oregon, deciding where to go in that remote and stunning part of our state may seem overwhelming. Hiking guru, Bill Sullivan, has spent some time there and will help us with some options. He will talk about various hiking trails and a bit of history of the area. He will also feature some choice hikes located in the Wallowas, which is where Obsidians Summer Camp 2025 will be held. This is a presentation you won’t want to miss. |

Japan’s Tokaidō Road was the main walking trail between Kyoto and Edo (now Tokyo) back in the 1600s. Obsidians members, Ane McKee and Hally McCabe, visited Japan last May and walked a portion of this historic trail, following in the footsteps of great emperors and powerful shoguns who shaped Japan, samurai warriors, merchants, and travelers who were given permission to leave their villages. They will share some of the history of this iconic road, talk about the regional specialties or famous items (meibutsu) of the post-towns along the trail, and give some suggestions on how you can travel in Japan and experience the more rural parts of this beautiful country. |
