This trail is located just north of Florence in the Cape Mt area. We will be starting hike at Horse Creek campground. I did one version of this hike last year. This year we will take a second loop described as Horse Ridge. This loop will lead us back to primary trail on our return trip. The historic Santiam Wagon was designed to lead settlers and their livestock eastward to the pasture lands of Central Oregon and to markets in eastern Oregon and Idaho. It became a major east-west byway through Cascades. This year the Trips Committee intends to have hikes all along this route.

To get to the east trailhead head drive toward Pleasant Hill on hwy 58. Turn left at the 76 station on to Ridgeway Rd. The parking area is 1.7 miles down this road. We will hike to the summit on trails #2, 4 and 1 and then return using trail #6. 
Meeting place is the LCC parking lot near the freeway. South Willamette Trail is a 5.5 mile trail through forests and crossing several streams, 11 miles roundtrip. Lunch will be streamside near the Eula Ridge Trailhead and our turn around point to go back to cars at Hardesty Trailhead. |

Meet at 52nd and Willamette, park on 52nd street near the water tower. We'll hike over to the Blanton Trailhead and return. 
We will meet at my car a row or two down from the fee box. Sunset is 8:59pm and the moonrise is 8:25pm. We will plan to take trails 17 and 3 to catch the main trail to the summit. A faster group of hikers may choose to include a portion of Trail 4 if it is open. We will take the main trail (#1) back to the parking lot. A beautiful and challenging all-day hike through some of Oregon's most iconic landscapes - waterfalls, lava fields and moss-covered old growth forest, all along the banks of the wild and scenic McKenzie River. We'll do this as a one-way shuttle with cars parked at the upper and lower trail head.
