This multi-day trip is based at Elk Prairie State Park in the Northern California Redwoods. Accommodations are in basic cabins. This is a members only trip. 
This 2 day clinic will introduce the concepts and skills of trad (traditional) climbing to the participants. We will cover the concepts of how protection works (active and passive), placement and cleaning of protection, natural features (threads, trees, etc), trad anchor building, and will include mock leading sessions. Mt. Hubris Climb
The climb up Mt Hubris is a multi-pitch rock climb (rated 5.6) on beautiful granite in northern California. NOTE: Obsidian members can sign up 30 days before the climb, non-members can sign up 2 weeks beforehand.

The United States has a long interest in trails, from exploration across the continent to recreation, as well as a history of usurping large swaths of indigenous land for recreational activities. In the late 1800s, social clubs became important, including the Appalachian Mountain Club, which was the first club to build trails and to admit women— a startling social reform of the day! Today we hike to maintain trails, advocate for public lands, enjoy social connection, and absorb the quiet… much like the Obsidians. Join us as Obsidian member, poet, and wordsmith Brenda Kame’enui talks about trails of exploration, sorrow, and pleasure— from the Missouri to the Metolius and Tuolumne Meadows to Twin Peaks. She will touch on Native American trails, the National Parks, the Oregon Trail, and some of her favorite trails in this heartfelt photo essay. |

This is a 6-mile (round-trip) hike across a dune expanse to the ocean and back. The Dellenback Dunes are the widest stretch of dunes on the Oregon Coast and exhibit some excellent examples of this landscape. This trip is exploratory for the trip leader. |
